Yogurt Recalled Canada
What happened?
Two popular yogurt brands in Canada, IÖGO and Olympic, have been recalled due to possible contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii, a bacteria that can cause serious infections, especially in infants and people with weakened immune systems.
The recalled products include IÖGO's strawberry banana, blueberry, and peach flavors, as well as Olympic's strawberry and peach flavors. All affected products have a best before date of March 2, 2023, or earlier.
What should you do?
If you have any of the recalled products, do not consume them. Return them to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.
If you have consumed any of the recalled products and are experiencing any symptoms, such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain, seek medical attention immediately.
What is Cronobacter sakazakii?
Cronobacter sakazakii is a bacteria that can cause serious infections, including sepsis and meningitis, especially in infants and people with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of a Cronobacter infection can include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and respiratory problems.
In severe cases, a Cronobacter infection can be fatal.
How can you avoid Cronobacter?
There are a few things you can do to avoid Cronobacter infection:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling food.
- Clean and sanitize all surfaces that come into contact with food.
- Do not feed infants powdered infant formula that has been mixed with water.
- Discard any leftover infant formula within one hour.
- Do not give infants or young children unpasteurized milk or cheese.
