The efforts of foresters and rescuers to contain and eliminate forest fires have been ongoing for the last few days. In total, to localize and eliminate the fire, the Stavropol Forestry created two groups, equipped with tractors, fire-fighting vehicles and mobile forest fire extinguishing complexes. They were assisted by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, forestry departments, and the Cossack squads. The Russian Emergencies Ministry helicopters Mi-8 and Ka-32, filling water from the Yegorlyk River, dropped more than 140 tons of water on the fire site. The group of the Stavropol Forest Protection Center made 64 sorties, dropping more than 200 tons of water, to extinguish a major fire in the Levokumskiy district. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire was human negligence. The perpetrators left behind the remnants of a fire that reignited due to gusty winds. As a result, the fire spread over 40 hectares. Local governments are working with law enforcement to find the perpetrators.
