Russia’s Orthodox Church Wants to Ban Morgenstern’s Music Video for Depicting Sex in Church
The Russian Orthodox Church has called for a ban on a music video by rapper Morgenstern, which features scenes of sexual intercourse in a church.
Church officials described the video, which has been viewed more than 40 million times on YouTube, as "blasphemous" and "offensive to believers."
The church has asked the Russian Ministry of Culture to ban the video, and has also called on YouTube to remove it from its platform.
The video, titled "Cadillac," was released on January 13, 2021. It features Morgenstern and his girlfriend having sex in a church, while other scenes show the rapper drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.
The video has been widely condemned by Russian Orthodox Church officials, who have called it "a mockery of our faith" and "an insult to our sacred places."
The church has also accused Morgenstern of promoting "immorality" and "blasphemy."
Morgenstern has defended the video, saying that it is "a work of art" and that he is not trying to offend anyone.
"I am not trying to insult anyone's feelings," Morgenstern said in a statement.
"I am simply trying to express my own feelings and experiences through my music."
The church's call for a ban on the video has been met with mixed reactions in Russia.
Some people support the church's stance, saying that the video is offensive and should not be allowed to be shown.
Others, however, have defended Morgenstern's right to freedom of expression, and have said that the church is overreacting.
The Russian Ministry of Culture has not yet announced whether it will ban the video.
YouTube has also not yet removed the video from its platform.
The controversy over the video is likely to continue in the coming weeks and months.
