Philippine Authorities Launch Massive Search for Swiss Tourist Juliana Lausanne, Missing on Remote Island

Swiss Tourist Vanishes on Remote Philippine Island

Authorities in the Philippines have launched a massive search operation for a missing Swiss tourist, Juliana Lausanne, who vanished on a remote island in the southern part of the country. Lausanne, a 28-year-old hiker, was last seen on the island of Siargao on February 13th. She had been staying at a guesthouse in the town of General Luna and was planning to go on a day hike in the mountains.

Lausanne's belongings, including her passport and phone, were found at the guesthouse, and there were no signs of a struggle. The search operation, which includes the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine National Police, and local volunteers, has been ongoing for several days but has yet to yield any results.

"We are doing everything we can to find Juliana," said Coast Guard spokesperson Commodore Armand Balilo. "We have deployed several vessels and aircraft to search the island and the surrounding waters."

Concerns Grow as Search Continues

As the search continues, concerns are growing for Lausanne's safety. The island of Siargao is known for its rugged terrain and dense jungle, and there are fears that Lausanne may have gotten lost or injured.

"We are very worried about Juliana," said Swiss Foreign Ministry spokesperson Peter Lauener. "We are in close contact with the Philippine authorities and are providing them with all the assistance we can."

Swiss Embassy Offers Support

The Swiss Embassy in Manila has set up a hotline for people with information about Lausanne's disappearance. The embassy is also providing consular assistance to Lausanne's family, who are due to arrive in the Philippines soon.

"We are doing everything we can to support Juliana's family during this difficult time," said Swiss Ambassador to the Philippines Alain Gaschen. "We remain hopeful that she will be found safe and sound."

Search Intensifies as Time Goes On

The search for Lausanne is intensifying as time goes on. The Philippine Coast Guard has deployed a search and rescue vessel to the area, and the Philippine Air Force has been conducting aerial searches. Local volunteers are also assisting in the search, scouring the island's trails and villages.

"We are not giving up hope," said Balilo. "We will continue to search until we find Juliana."
