Maggie Mac Neil - Canada's Most Decorated Olympian
Early Life and Career
Born in February 2000 in London, Ontario, Maggie Mac Neil is a Canadian competitive swimmer who specializes in sprint freestyle and butterfly events.
She began swimming at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks, setting numerous national age group records.
In 2019, she won her first international medal, a bronze in the 100-meter butterfly at the Pan American Games.
Olympic Success
Mac Neil made her Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games, where she became Canada's most decorated Olympian of the Games.
She won gold in the 100-meter butterfly, becoming the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic swimming title since 1992.
She also won silver in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay and bronze in the 4x100-meter medley relay.
World Championships
In addition to her Olympic success, Mac Neil has also excelled at the World Championships.
She won gold in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, becoming the first Canadian woman to win a world title in the event.

Outside of swimming, Mac Neil is a student at the University of Michigan, where she studies kinesiology.
She is also a role model for young swimmers across Canada and is known for her positive attitude and dedication to the sport.
She is considered one of the top swimmers in the world and is a strong contender for more medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
