Anatoly Zayaev - A Unique Figure for Tavria and Simferopol

Early Life and Career

Anatoly Zayaev was born on 31 October, 1931 in Simferopol, Crimea. He began his football career with the youth team of the Simferopol sports club, Burevestnik. In 1966, he joined the Tavria Simferopol first team and made his debut in the Soviet Second League. Anatoly Zayaev played as a forward for 12 seasons, scoring 104 goals in 434 appearances for Tavria Simferopol. He was the team captain from 1959 to 1966.

Personal Life

Anatoly Zayaev was an active member of the Soviet Army. While serving at the DOSAAF military sports club, he was spotted by Tavria Simferopol scout, Anatoly Komarov. His greatest strength on the pitch was his passing. He was also known for his determination and leadership qualities. Anatoly Zayaev was a respected figure in Simferopol and was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR in 1964.

Legacy

Anatoly Zayaev is considered one of the greatest players in the history of Tavria Simferopol. He was part of the team that won the Soviet Cup in 1964. After retiring from playing, he worked as a coach for Tavria Simferopol and other football clubs in Crimea. Anatoly Zayaev died on 21 March, 2018 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife, two children and three grandchildren. In 2019, a monument was erected in Simferopol in his honor.
